01 · HOW IT WORKS

Keeps the boxes apart and lets the scent through

Two colonies accept each other once they share a scent, and that takes a few days of living together without contact. The perforated surface allows that exchange of scent and pheromone while keeping the physical barrier. And in two corners it carries six 4.2 mm holes, which is not just any measurement: it is the same gauge a queen excluder uses, so a worker passes and a queen does not. A few start mixing while the two queens stay apart.

02 · HOW TO SET IT

Perforated corners towards the entrance

Turn the two corners with the large holes towards the entrance side, which is the orientation it is designed for. Before stacking, two checks: that only the queen you mean to keep is left in the set, and that the boxes sit squarely on one another. When traffic through the six passages is calm and there is no fighting on the grid, take it out and complete the union.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Be clear what it is: a management tool, not a guarantee. The grid paces the transition, but it does not ensure there will be no fighting or that the queen will be accepted. Follow whatever uniting protocol you use and watch how it develops over the following days.
