Cleansers and Maintenance Accesories
Fifty-four references: cardboard and poplar sheets, cellulose strips, blowtorches and flame guns, sprayers, frame washers and disinfection equipment. Up to €1,450.
Cleansers and Maintenance Accesories
This is the hygiene toolbox, and its parts do two very different jobs that are worth not mixing up: supporting an application and disinfecting equipment.
The supports: sheets and strips
The poplar sheet for impregnating (€0.16) and the cellulose strips (€0.14) are exactly that — carriers. You impregnate them with whatever you are applying and they spread the dose evenly inside the hive. What you impregnate them with has to be the authorised product, with its leaflet and its dose — the carrier changes none of that.
The cardboard sheets (€0.11) are something else: they go on the floor, under the mesh, and let you see what falls without opening the hive.
Disinfecting equipment
- Flame. The classic method for wood: fast, residue-free and effective on the surface. No use on polystyrene or plastic, which deform.
- Frame washer. Hot water under pressure for equipment reused in volume. It is what makes cleaning hundreds of frames viable.
- Sprayers. For applying disinfectant. Each product has its indication and contact time: read before use.
The rule you do not skip
Equipment from an apiary with a notifiable disease is not disinfected and reused on your own initiative. There the official veterinary service decides, and skipping that can turn one focus into an affected district.
The full routine is in cleaning and hygiene; the health framework in bee health.
