600 ml MAXIMUM CAPACITY | 3 200 ML DISPENSERS |
4 cm WICK LENGTH | 1 FRAME POSITION |
Wooden diffuser frame holding up to three 200 ml dispensers with felt wicks, for applying formic acid by evaporation inside the hive.
It does not sit over the frames: it is a frame and takes up a position in the brood nest. The dispensers seat in the bottom bar, and the sealing plugs let you fill and carry them without exposing yourself.
01 · HOW IT GOES IN
It is a modified wooden frame: the bottom bar carries notches so the dispensers seat where they should, and stainless steel inserts give the stability. That changes where the product works — inside the brood nest, at frame height, rather than in the space above. In exchange, it occupies a position: a frame has to come out to put it in.
02 · IT IS MODULAR
Each dispenser holds 200 ml and the frame takes up to three, so the volume steps in 200s: 200, 400 or 600 ml. There is no need to fill it completely. That is the advantage over a fixed-capacity diffuser: the same frame serves a small colony and a strong one without changing accessory.
03 · THE WICK
What evaporates is not the bottle, it is the felt wick: it draws the liquid up and gives it surface in contact with the air. They come in variable lengths, up to 4 cm, and are trimmed to what each case asks for. More wick out, more surface and more evaporation; less wick, a slower rate. As with every acid applied by evaporation, the ambient temperature changes the outcome a great deal from one day to the next.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
The heavy plastic plugs seal the dispensers tight, and that is what lets you fill them in the honey house and carry them to the apiary without decanting acid in the field. It is an application accessory: no product is included.
| ✓ FITS | Application by evaporation inside the brood nest, taking up one frame position. |
| ✕ DOESN'T FIT | Hives with no spare frame position, and application by trickling or sublimation. |
| ⚠ NOT INCLUDED | Any medicine or formic acid. |
Formic acid is dangerous to handle. Gloves, a mask, goggles and clothing that protects against spills and vapour, both when filling and when collecting. Fill the dispensers away from the apiary and without rushing.
In transport, plugs tight and upright. Check the plugs are tight before moving the frame and keep the dispensers standing: that is the position the plugs are made for.
Registered medicines only. In Spain, preparing a varroa treatment with formic acid at home is an unlawful application carrying criminal and administrative liability; in other countries check what is authorised locally. Registered formic-acid medicines include Varromed®, and also MAQS and Formic Pro. The dose, the timing and the duration are those on the current data sheet of the one you use.
