The bench height decides how you finish the season

Uncapping means hours on your feet with a frame in your hands and one movement repeated hundreds of times. If the bench makes you stoop ten centimetres, those ten centimetres are paid for in your back multiplied by the whole harvest. The right height is the one that leaves your forearms horizontal with the frame resting on the stand; if the model has adjustable legs, set them on day one, not on day three.

And one thing that gets forgotten when choosing a model: the bench does not finish when you stop uncapping. The filtering grid has to let the cappings drain for long enough to recover the honey clinging to them — that is honey for sale, not waste. Which is why the outlet tap matters, and that the tray empties easily. A bench with a good grid and a bad drain forces you to decant by hand exactly when you have no energy left.

Uncapping Tables

An uncapping table is the workhorse at the heart of every honey house. Also sold as an uncapping tank, it gives you a long stainless steel surface to slice the wax cappings off your frames before they go into the extractor. The bench catches the cappings and every drop of drip honey, keeps the work area clean, and lets you uncap frame after frame without stopping to scrape your bench or chase product across the floor. Work standing, lose less honey

Uncapping at the correct height, on your feet, changes the whole day in the honey house: less stooping, less fatigue, more frames per hour. A built-in straining screen separates the cappings from the honey as you go, while the honey gate at the base recovers the drip honey that would otherwise be lost in the wax. In a busy season that reclaimed honey can add up to 10% more honey saved per batch. The tray empties easily, and several models add legs, locking castors and a lid for clean storage between harvests.
