01 · FROM DRUM TO BENCH

No tools and no fitting out

It rests on the rim and tightens with four wing screws: no spanners, no drilling, nothing modified. In a minute you have an uncapping station, and in another minute it is off again.

It is the cheap alternative to a dedicated uncapping bench, which takes up room all year to be used for three weeks.

02 · THE WORKING HEIGHT

The real reason it works

A 220-300 kg drum stands around 90 cm tall, which is the height for working upright with your arms comfortable. Uncapping is repetitive work: doing it at that height rather than stooped over a low tub tells on your back by the fortieth frame.

The frame rests on the rods and stays steady while you draw the knife, which is what lets you cut accurately instead of holding and cutting at once.

03 · TWO AT ONCE

Worked from both sides

The rack is worked from both sides, so two people uncap at the same time over the same drum. On a harvest with help, that is what stops uncapping being the step that holds the extractor up.

04 · WHAT FALLS INSIDE

Cappings on top, honey below

The cappings drop straight to the bottom of the drum. Put a sieve inside and the honey drains through while the wax stays on top, ready to render.

That is what saves the intermediate cappings bucket, and what makes the drum work twice: as a bench and as a tank.
