100% combed cotton at 290 g/m², YKK® zippers and a detachable round veil. The suit we recommend to beekeepers who are in the apiary week after week.
A beekeeping suit is judged on details you don't notice until the third season: how well the zippers hold up, whether the fabric goes soft with sweat, whether the ankle elastics still seal after fifty washes. This suit is built exactly for that — made in high-weight combed cotton, with branded components and finishes that stand up to real apiary work.
Heavy enough weight that a worker's stinger will not reach the skin if she brushes against you. Combed cotton removes the short fibres, so the fabric is softer, breathes better on 30 °C days and does not snag on gloves. An important detail when working with a smoker: cotton does not melt or drip if an ember lands on it — unlike any synthetic fabric.
The veil zipper is the most abused component on any suit: tugs with sweaty gloves, wax, sticky propolis, grit from the ground. A cheap zipper goes off alignment within two seasons. We fit Japanese YKK zippers — the industry standard, used on everything from military jackets to mountaineering gear. A Velcro storm flap covers the zipper and adds a second barrier against bees.
The round veil gives you full vision all the way around your head: you see the forager approaching from behind before she lands. It is fitted with perimeter zippers, so you can remove it in under thirty seconds for a water break, a meal or just a breather — no need to strip off the whole suit. The mesh is reinforced black plastic — better visual contrast than metal mesh, and no rust from sweat or oxalic acid treatments.
Ankles with zipper and elastic — not a single worker sneaks up the leg while you kneel to inspect entrances. Wide elastic cuffs, elasticated waist and reinforced collar flap. The leg pockets are sized for the hive tool, queen marker and phone. A carry bag is included: you stuff the sweaty suit inside at the end of the round and keep propolis and pollen out of the car.
This is the suit we recommend to beekeepers who work the apiary regularly — not for the occasional Sunday inspection, but for those running 20+ hives who are out there week after week. For very hot regions or summer migration down south, consider the ultra-ventilated three-layer model: slightly less sting protection, but far more breathability. For a beginner with one or two colonies it may be more suit than needed.
