01 · THE COLD CHAIN

We only ship it Monday to Wednesday

Fresh royal jelly has to stay cold, and a parcel sitting over the weekend is a lost parcel, so we only ship Monday to Wednesday: an order placed on Thursday goes out the following Monday. It travels in insulated cork and amber glass, which shields it from light. On arrival, into the fridge immediately and take the cork off — it is for transport, not for the fridge. Do not freeze it.

02 · 10-HDA

The marker used to compare one royal jelly with another

10-HDA (10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid) is a fatty acid unique to royal jelly, which is why it is used as an indicator of authenticity and freshness: it appears in no other hive product, and its percentage falls if the jelly is mishandled in storage. The figure quoted as the market reference is 1.4 %. This jelly is packed with a guaranteed minimum of 1.8 %, and the real value of each batch runs between 1.8 % and 2.2 % — the exact figure comes with the batch analysis. It is composition so you know what you are buying, not a promise of anything.

03 · TASTE AND GRAFTING

Genuinely acidic, and with a second use that is not the table

Fresh royal jelly is acidic and sharp — anyone who has tasted it straight from the comb knows the bite that stings the palate a little. Intensity varies between batches and harvests, and some find this one slightly sweet on the finish and less acidic than expected. The other use of the same jar is not culinary: priming cups for grafting in queen rearing, which is what many beekeepers buy it for.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Two handling notes: some people find the spoon awkward, and the jar is not leak-proof upside down — always store it upright on a fridge shelf, not in the door, where the temperature swings most.
