A jar broken in transit costs the jar, the postage, the reshipment and — the expensive part — the customer. For 39 cents that is avoided.

What a well-chosen box does

Honey boxes come with dividers: each jar sits in its own cell and no glass touches another glass. That is the whole secret. A generic box with loose jars and crumpled paper is the one that arrives with two broken.

And the box goes matched to the format: there are boxes for 6 half-kilo jars (€0.39), 6 one-kilo (€0.52) and 12 half-kilo (€0.65). A jar rattling in its cell gets knocked just the same.

Weight: the check almost nobody makes

Twelve one-kilo jars are over 14 kg with packaging. Before standardising on a box, look at your carrier's weight bracket: sometimes two boxes of six cost less than one of twelve, and arrive in better shape.

The kraft bag is something else

The kraft paper bag with a bee is not for shipping: it is for handing over in person at a market or a shop. It costs cents and makes a jar look like a gift rather than a purchase. In direct sales it is one of the highest-return items for what it costs.

If you ship by courier, mark the parcel fragile and as a food product. It is no guarantee, but it changes how it is handled.
