01 · THE SIZE

It reads badly and confuses everyone

Each label measures 42 × 225 mm: four centimetres tall by twenty-two and a half long. Flat on the table it looks out of proportion, but that is because it is not applied flat: it wraps the jar.

The arithmetic works itself out: a half-kilo jar is about 75 mm across, which is some 235 mm of circumference. That is why the band is 225: it goes practically all the way round. It suits 1 kg and 500 g jars and most shapes on the market.

02 · WHAT IS PERSONALISED

Your details, not the design

What gets printed with your details is the content: honey variety, producer's name, weight, batch and date and anything else you need to appear.

The design does not change — it is the same minimalist layout for everyone, deliberately so that it does not upstage the honey. If what you want is to print your own artwork or logo, write to us before ordering, because that is a different job.

03 · WHAT THE LAW SAYS

The mandatory particulars are your call

We print what you tell us; what has to appear is the packer's responsibility. For honey that includes the name, origin, batch, net quantity, best-before date and the operator's details, plus the health registration number your region requires.

On lettering size there is a specific rule: the European food information regulation sets a minimum x-height of 1.2 mm for mandatory particulars, and 0.9 mm where the largest surface of the pack is under 80 cm². If your case is unclear, ask us before committing a whole roll.

04 · WHY A ROLL AND NOT A PRINTER

Five hundred, no die

A traditional printer asks for a minimum run, a cutting die and a plate before printing the first label. Here the roll is 500 units with no setup costs.

For a beekeeper packing a few hundred jars a year, that is the difference between labelling properly and improvising with a hand-written sticker.
