01 · THE 75 MM CORE IS THE FILTER

The answer to «will my labels work?»

We have been asked whether rolls from another supplier will do, and the answer is yes if they match the dimensions. It is not about the brand:

The one that rules out most rolls is the 75 mm core: plenty of suppliers wind onto a 40 mm or one-inch mandrel, and those will not go on the spindle however well the label itself measures up. Specify it when you order.

02 · 38 TO 120 MM, UP TO 150 TALL

The containers it takes

It handles cylindrical containers from 38 to 120 mm across and up to 150 mm tall. That range goes considerably lower than other hand labellers, so small gift-size jars are in.

Check the height before buying the container: a 147 mm jar goes in, but with three millimetres to spare. If your format is taller, this is not the machine.

03 · THIRTY A MINUTE, WITH PRACTICE

The pace, and why we say «with practice»

You set the container down, turn the crank, and the label goes on as the jar rolls. Once you have the knack you get up to 30 a minute: that is 1,800 an hour, or a pallet of a thousand-odd jars in a little over half an hour of pure labelling.

The first few come out crooked, and that is normal: you have to set the stop and find the starting point. The figure of 30 belongs to someone who has done it a hundred times, not to the first afternoon.

04 · STEEL FRAME AND 4.5 KG

Why it weighs what it weighs

The frame is steel and the whole thing weighs 4.5 kg. On a hand-cranked machine that is not a drawback: it is what stops it walking across the bench while you turn.

At 400 × 240 × 210 mm it stores on a shelf and moves to another room without dismantling anything. It is the middle ground between sticking labels by hand and a full automatic line.
