01 · CYLINDRICAL JARS ONLY

The container has to roll evenly

The machine works by rolling the container between two plates while the label goes on. That requires the jar to be cylindrical and of constant section where the label sits.

A hexagonal, square or tapered jar will not roll at an even speed and the label comes out creased or off-centre. If your container is not a clean cylinder, test before committing to a run.

02 · THE SPIRIT LEVELS

Levelling is half the result

The two spirit levels and the feet adjustable up to 120 mm are not an extra: they are what prevents the classic failure of a manual labeller, the spiral label.

If the machine sits at an angle, the jar drifts as it turns and the label climbs or drops over the revolution. Levelling it properly at setup, and checking again if you move it to another bench, saves throwing labels away.

03 · THE JAR: DRY AND AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

Adhesive does not forgive moisture

A drop of honey on the thread or wet glass and the label will not grip: fill, clean and label, in that order.

And a seasonal detail: a jar coming out of cold storage condenses, and adhesive bonds poorly when cold. Let the jars come up to workshop temperature before running them through.

04 · WHICH LABELS AND WHICH JARS

The numbers to reconcile

On the roll side: 75 mm core and an outer diameter of up to 150 mm. On the label side: 10 to 110 mm wide and 10 to 300 mm long.

On the container side: Ø15 to Ø120 mm and up to 150 mm tall, which covers everything from a sample jar to a one-kilo. Check all three before ordering printed labels.

Measure your jar and your roll. And if the container is not cylindrical, ask us first: not all of them roll well.
