It is not there to hold the frame: it is there so you don't have to. With the frame still, the knife gets both hands.

01 · BOTH HANDS FREE
And that is why fewer combs break
Uncapping while holding the frame with one hand and sawing with the other is what flexes the comb, and a warm, heavily capped comb is at its most fragile. Resting on the stand it does not move, and the cut comes out straighter with fewer crumbs.
It also lets you work with the uncapping fork, which almost always wants two hands.
02 · WHY IT'S UNIVERSAL
The hinge at the top
The top hinge lets it open wider or narrower, so it wedges into benches of different widths without tools or improvising. That is what is behind the word “universal” in the name.
And it comes out just as easily: take it off when it is in the way, or move it to another bench if you shift the workstation.
03 · SUPPORT ON BOTH SIDES
One face and the other
It has support on both sides, so you uncap one face, turn the frame and rest it against the other side without moving the stand.
Stainless steel is what a part deserves that sits wet and sticky between batches.
