Details of Uncapping needle roller

Uncapping roller with prongs, wooden handle and 6.5 cm working width. Instead of lifting the cap with a continuous cut, it pierces and removes the surface of the cells. It is a particularly useful tool for dense or thixotropic honeys, such as certain heather honeys, which may resist conventional uncapping and centrifuging.

🍯 Piercing when a clean cut is not enough

Support the frame securely and run the roller over it with moderate pressure, keeping it parallel to the face of the comb. The prongs should open the cap and dislodge the honey from within the cell, not crush the central foundation. With very viscous combs, several criss-cross passes and an adapted extraction process may be required; the roller facilitates opening, but does not, on its own, make thixotropic honey runny.

🔄 Complements an uncapping fork or knife

The width of 6.5 cm allows you to work quickly through the central area, although sunken cells, corners and strips adjacent to the wood may be out of reach of the tines. Go over these with an uncapping fork or knife if the frame requires it. For runny honey and regular combs, a knife may provide a more uniform finish and require fewer passes; the choice depends on the texture and condition of the wax.

⚠️ Clean the tines before any residue hardens

Remove honey and wax at the end of the day, without knocking or bending the tines. Rinse the working part, dry the whole unit thoroughly and avoid leaving the wooden handle submerged. Before each use, rotate the roller and check that there are no bent, loose or residue-covered tines that could tear the comb.
