01 · HOW IT SEPARATES

The perforated box is the strainer

The lower box is watertight and collects; the upper one is perforated and acts as a strainer. The cappings that fall as you uncap stay in the top box, and the honey they release drains into the bottom one. When you finish, you lift the perforated box out with all the cappings in it — off to the press or the melter — and underneath is clean honey, without having handled anything.

02 · THE FRAME REST

It holds the frame while you cut

The stainless steel rest is what separates this tray from a washing-up bowl: the frame sits on it by the top bar and stays put while you work with the knife or the fork, without slipping or the blade wandering. Holding a frame with one hand and cutting with the other is what ruins combs and fingers.

03 · THIRTEEN CENTIMETRES

It fits anywhere

At 13 cm tall, this tray stands upright in a cupboard, travels in the car and sits on any table without having to work on tiptoe. It is the size for someone uncapping at home or in a small room, not in a workshop: for volume there are deeper uncapping benches that hold more cappings before they need emptying.

04 · CLEANING

Smooth surface, and no corners

Smooth food-grade plastic cleans with hot water as soon as you are done, while the honey is still warm and comes away on its own. The two boxes separate, so there is no corner where honey sits fermenting until next year. That is what you appreciate after a long session.

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It has no drain tap: you get the honey out by lifting the perforated box and pouring off the lower one. It measures 60 × 40 cm, so check your frame sits in it comfortably.
