Drag uncapper in food-grade stainless steel, with a metal depth stop and a wooden handle. You draw it like a peeler and it takes the capping layer in one pass. It takes strength, works better with warm honey and lifts a thick layer: plan to drain the cappings.

Details of Turbo Pro stainless steel uncapping peeler 24 cm with wooden handle

A drag uncapper: you draw it like a peeler and it takes the whole capping layer in one pass.

A food-grade stainless blade with a metal depth stop, on a wooden handle. Where the fork finishes off, this one does the pass.

01 · HOW TO USE IT

Drawing it towards you, with the honey warm

You do not lift cappings tooth by tooth: you rest it at the top and drag it back as if peeling a potato, with the stop setting the depth so you do not bite into the comb. You get the knack within two or three frames. Two handling notes: it takes arm strength — it is fast, not effortless — and it works far better with warm honey: cold or starting to granulate, the blade digs in and it costs you twice the effort.

02 · THE CAPPINGS IT TAKES

It lifts a thick layer: plan to drain it

In exchange for speed, it takes off a good deal of wax with honey attached, more than a well-handled knife. If you have an uncapping tray or bucket to drain it in, you lose nothing — the honey runs off and the wax is left clean to melt. If you uncap over a bowl and the cappings end up in the wax bucket undrained, that is where honey goes. It is also worth knowing that cappings build up in the comb of the tool and you have to knock it clear every few frames.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

This is the tool for anyone processing frames in series who wants to finish sooner. For four frames off one hive, the uncapping fork does as much and tires you less; and for finishing the sunken cells after this pass, that fork is still the one that reaches.

✓ GOOD FORFrames of any size, with a reasonably flat comb.
⚠ BEAR IN MINDIt takes strength and loads up with cappings: knock it clear every few frames.
