Fully coated blue PVC glove with cotton lining and a 30 cm gauntlet — the one from the chemicals-and-cleaning drawer, not the one for opening hives.

In the apiary you end up using two different gloves, and it pays not to mix them up. The leather or nitrile one is for inspections: thin, with some feel, meant for handling frames without crushing bees. This is the other one — waterproof, fully PVC-coated with a long gauntlet, the pair you put on to handle chemicals, prepare treatments or wash down equipment in the honey house.

🧪 Full coating and triple dip: what it means

It means the textile liner is dipped in PVC three times and coated all over — not just the palm — so there is no seam or porous patch for liquid to get through. The hand has a rough finish, which is what lets you hold a wet drum or container without it sliding, and the inside is cotton lined: it goes on and comes off dry, and you do not end up with a boiled hand the way you do in bare PVC.

🛡️ EN 388 and EN 374: what each one certifies

They are two different standards and worth keeping apart. EN 388 covers mechanical risks — abrasion, cut, tear, puncture. EN 374 covers chemical risk: part 2 checks the glove does not leak, and part 3, permeation, measures how long a product takes to work through the material. Here is the nuance to grasp: chemical protection is not generic, it is certified product by product, with its own codes and breakthrough times in the marking on the glove itself. Before handling a treatment, read that marking and what the product's own datasheet says.

📐 One size 10 and a 30 cm gauntlet

It comes in a single size 10, a standard man's hand; if you take a 7 or an 8 it will be loose on you, and for precise work that shows. The gauntlet is 30 cm overall and smooth, without elastic: the advantage is that anything spilled over the top runs off rather than pooling inside, and it pulls off in one go. The drawback is that it does not close at the wrist — if you will be working with your arm raised, pick one with an elasticated cuff.
