Beekeeping gloves with a breathable knit back, sheepskin palm and double leather on thumb, index and middle finger, with a cotton twill gauntlet. Sizes 8 to 12, category II PPE. They are the gloves for summer and long inspections: they ventilate and keep the feel, in exchange for less barrier on the back than cowhide.

The number one problem with an all-leather glove is sweat in July: here the back breathes and the palm is still leather, which is where you feel the frame.

01 · THE BACK

Breathable knit: cool, and less barrier than leather

The back is a knit fabric that lets air through and does not hold sweat; on two- or three-hour inspections in the heat the difference from an all-leather glove is big. The other side: the fabric stops fewer stings than cowhide. It is a comfort-and-dexterity glove for gentle colonies and calm handling; with defensive colonies or on stormy days, the cowhide-backed BeeHard.

02 · PALM AND FINGERS

Sheepskin and double leather on the three that work

The palm is natural sheepskin: thin, flexible, with feel to pick a frame up by the lugs, seat a Hoffman or cage a queen. Thumb, index and middle finger carry a double layer of leather, because they pull, turn and seat and are where any glove opens; its one review says so: perfect, with very good reinforcement. The cotton twill gauntlet closes over the sleeve.

03 · SIZE AND CARE

Measure the palm, and dry in the shade

Five sizes, 8 to 12, by palm girth without the thumb and with some room. Clean with a dry or barely damp cloth and dry in the shade with air; no direct sun or heat, which harden the leather. For oxalic or soda neither these nor the leather ones will do: for that, the nitrile glove.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

One pair of the chosen size is supplied; the leather-backed one for more protection is 3180, and the nitrile one for treatments is 3182.
