Light weight and full vented beekeeping overall. Ensure protection against bees sting and it is very comfortable and fresh.
At eleven on a July morning, the suit decides how many hives you inspect properly. Not how many you open: how many you go through without rushing.
The AIR® is a ventilated mesh suit with a fencing veil. Its argument is not the thickness of the fabric but the air getting through: it covers you from ankle to head and still lets the heat out, which is what lets you work slowly when the sun is hard.
01 · MESH, NOT CLOTH
The body is ventilated 100 % polyester mesh. Air crosses the fabric and carries away the heat your own body makes, instead of banking it between skin and cloth.
Wear a thin T-shirt underneath: the mesh chafes a little on bare skin, and that extra layer also holds the fabric off the body, which is what matters when a bee lands on it. No garment removes the risk of a sting; what you can do is close every opening and give no surface that sits tight against you.
02 · THE VEIL
A fencing veil is a rigid mesh mask with no hoops or seams in front of your eyes: you see the whole frame at a glance and it takes up less room when you lean over the hive. It sits closer to the face than a round veil, and on a windy day a thin cap underneath keeps the mesh off you.
It comes off completely by undoing the zips: all the way for washing, or halfway to wear the suit without the veil.
03 · CLOSURES AND POCKETS
Cuffs and ankles are elasticated, and the ankles also carry a zip so you can get boots on without a fight. The elastic thumb loops stop the sleeve riding up as you lift a super, which is how most forearm stings get in.
Six pockets: two on the chest — one zipped for what must not fall out, one with hook-and-loop — and two on the thighs, plus two at the back for the hive tool and brush.
04 · THE SIZE
The reference we use: size M covers 1.70 to 1.80 m at a slim-to-medium build, and each size up moves one step from there. It is made in M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL.
Two rules of thumb: the suit goes over your clothes, so choose it counting what you will wear underneath; and between two sizes, take the larger, because a loose suit ventilates better and clings less. If you want us to confirm it against your height and weight, write to us before ordering.
One warning: the veil does not go in the washing machine. It is rigid and the drum deforms it.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
A mesh suit solves the heat. Worth knowing what you are getting and what you are not:
| ✓ FITS | Summer apiaries and long inspections: here thermal comfort is the main argument. |
| ✓ FITS | Anyone in and out of the van all day: the veil comes off and back on in seconds. |
| ✕ DOES NOT FIT | If what you want is the maximum barrier through fabric thickness. This is a light suit: it wins on ventilation, not on padding. |
| ⚠ NOT INCLUDED | No gloves and no boots. The suit closes at wrist and ankle; from there it is up to you. |
