Beekeeping glove made of skay (commonly escai), a synthetic material (polyurethane and polyester) that imitates leather.
Beekeeping glove in skay — polyurethane on polyester, the synthetic that imitates leather — 33 cm long and in sizes 8 and 10.
It is the old standby, with no pretensions: not the most comfortable glove in the catalogue, but it does the job and costs what it costs.
01 · HOW FAR UP IT GOES
The 33 cm is the total length, hand included: it covers the hand and part of the forearm, but it does not reach the elbow. With the suit sleeve over it, that is enough. Sizes 8 and 10, European glove numbering.
02 · MIND THE SMOKER
Skay is a synthetic and burns easily. Lighting the smoker with them on — hand near the flame, lighter against the mouth — ruins them first time out. Light the fire bare-handed or with a different glove.
03 · WASH THEM
When a bee stings the glove she leaves alarm pheromone on it, and that smell travels with you to the next hive. Wash them with soap and water now and then — skay takes it — and dry them in the shade, never in the sun.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
They do not breathe: in summer your hands will sweat, and that is the price of a cheap glove. For precision work — marking queens, grafting — thin nitrile works better.
