Automatic-refill dosing syringe with a 3-litre backpack, adjustable from 1 to 10 ml per stroke.
The syringe refills itself from the reservoir on your back, so you squeeze, release and it is already loaded for the next hive. It is the tool for trickling between frames, and it also serves to put supplements into the feeder.
01 · THE DOSE
It adjusts from 1 to 10 ml, and that margin is not decoration: trickle treatments are not all applied the same way, and trickling is not the same as dosing a supplement into the feeder. The exact figure comes from the data sheet of the product you use, not from the tool. What the syringe adds is that the figure repeats: you set the stop once and every hive gets the same, with no eyeballing it with a tired arm at hive number seventy.
02 · THE BACKPACK
The 3-litre reservoir sits in a backpack and feeds the syringe through a tube, so the working range is measured in hives, not refills. That is what changes the job on large apiaries: no putting kit down, walking back to the container and picking up again. One from the field: the strap tends to slip off the container when you set it on the ground, so if you work putting it down and picking it up, it pays to secure it near the top with a band.
03 · CLEANING
The plastic is heavy duty and cleans and disinfects easily, but what matters is when. This tool runs an acid treatment, a syrup and a supplement through the same circuit, and residue from one skews the dose of the next: dried sugar syrup also sticks the plunger. Rinse with clean water when you change product, not only at the end of the day.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
It is an application tool, not a treatment: no product is included. And it is built for small volumes per hive; if what you need is to spray or to deliver litres, the tool is a different one.
| ✓ FITS | Trickling between frames and dosing into the feeder, at 1 to 10 ml per hive. |
| ✕ DOESN'T FIT | Spraying, and delivering large volumes per hive. |
| ⚠ NOT INCLUDED | Any medicine, supplement or syrup. |
The dose and the timing come from the medicine's data sheet. This doser delivers precisely the volume you set on it, but it does not decide what that volume is. For veterinary treatments use only authorised medicines and apply what their current data sheet states.
Protection when handling acids. Oxalic acid trickle treatments irritate skin and eyes: gloves and goggles, and rinse the equipment when you finish.
