A sprayer is an applicator, and an applicator remembers everything that has ever gone through it.

One-litre hand pressure sprayer, with a translucent graduated body and an adjustable metal nozzle. It stands 28 cm tall by 12 across and works with gloves on.

01 · ONE FOR EACH JOB

The rule that saves trouble

This is the first thing to settle: one sprayer for treatments and a different one for water and syrup, marked and never swapped. What stays in the tank, the tube and the nozzle ends up, drop by drop, in the next application — and in a hive that means a residue reaching where it should not.

And the rule that goes with it: only authorised products, and in the form of application their label states. A sprayer does not make applicable something that is not.

02 · WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Water, syrup and swarms

Away from treatments, its year-round uses are the old ones: a veil of water over a swarm keeps it together while you collect it; and light syrup over the bees when you hive them or unite two colonies sets them cleaning one another, which is half the battle won.

The metal nozzle turns from jet to mist, and the translucent body with its scale shows how much is left without opening anything.
