5 % DILUTION IN WATER | 10 ml PER APPLICATION |
120 ml SMALL SIZE | 1 L LARGE SIZE |
Microbial preventive based on Bacillus thuringiensis aizawai, for protecting stored combs and supers from wax moth.
Wax moth does not attack the store room: it takes advantage of whatever is put away unwatched. B-401 is sprayed onto the combs before you store them, and acts on the larvae when they ingest it.
01 · HIVE HEALTH
It is a concentrated solution of Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies aizawai. The larvae take it in as they feed on the comb and stop developing. That defines exactly where it belongs: it acts on the young larva, so it is used preventively — before the comb is infested, not to rescue one that already is.
02 · INSTALLATION
The moment is after the harvest, when you take the supers off to store them. It also serves to protect bait hives or empty boxes. Depending on the formulation the effect can hold for several months; check the product's own data sheet for duration, expiry and storage.
03 · HOW TO USE
Shake the bottle well before mixing. Dilute 1 part B-401 to 19 parts water (5 %): 10 ml of product in 200 ml of water covers 5 Dadant frames, 7 Langstroth, 10 shallow or 5 Layens. Spray both faces of the comb. Once diluted, use it the same day. Let the combs dry somewhere airy before storing, or the damp will give you mould.
04 · WHICH SIZE?
The sum comes straight from the dose: every 10 ml treats one batch.
| 120 ml | 12 applications — around 60 Dadant frames, 84 Langstroth or 120 shallow. |
|---|---|
| 1 litre | 100 applications — around 500 Dadant frames, 700 Langstroth or 1,000 shallow. |
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
It does not replace management: wax moth takes the space the bees are not defending. Matching volume to population, renewing comb and not storing old black comb weigh as much as treating the stored material.
| ✓ USE IT | On combs and supers, before putting them away. |
| ✕ IT WILL NOT | Rescue a comb that is already infested. |
| ⚠ ONCE DILUTED | Use it the same day. |
⚠ PRECAUTIONS
Always follow the product's own data sheet for dose, expiry, storage and conditions of use. Let the combs dry before storing them to avoid mould. And do not treat it as a fix for a weakened colony: it is a preventive for stored material.
