01 · HOW THEY ARE SOLD

The quantity you pick is packs, not strips

It is the question we get most, so let us leave no margin: the selling unit is the pack of 20 strips. Put 10 in the quantity box and you receive 10 packs, that is 200 strips. At that price per pack the arithmetic follows on its own, but it is better said than discovered when the box is opened. And if you need large quantities for a season, write to us and we will quote you by volume rather than adding up packs.

02 · WHAT THE FLUTING DOES

It absorbs a lot and releases it slowly

What makes them useful is not the cardboard, it is the fluting: the internal channel multiplies the available surface, so a strip holds considerably more liquid or paste — petroleum jelly, for instance — than it looks as though it should, and gives it back gradually rather than all at once. Being single use, it goes in, does its job and comes out with nothing to clean; and as it is cardboard it burns well, so plenty of people use the leftovers rolled up as smoker fuel.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The size cuts down, it does not build up

Each strip is 3 × 30 cm and 4 mm thick. If you need less, scissors take a second and any size you like. What cannot be done is the reverse: anyone after a wider, longer or thicker strip — we have been asked for 2 cm thick by 34 × 10 cm — will not get it out of this one, and that is worth knowing before ordering. For that you need different cardboard, not this one trimmed.

WHAT THESE STRIPS MUST NOT BE USED FOR

We are asked whether they can be soaked in products to treat varroa. The answer is no, and it is not a matter of preference: in Spain and in the European Union, varroa treatment and any other veterinary application in the hive may only be carried out with authorised veterinary medicines and in accordance with their datasheet. Using home-made preparations is prohibited under animal health and veterinary medicines law, and can lead to administrative penalties and, where applicable, criminal liability. Which product to use and on what schedule is decided by your vet or animal health group. These strips are sold solely as absorbent cardboard support.
