01 · MATERIAL

It drinks because it is unsized

Ordinary paper is sized: a filler seals the fibre so ink will not bleed through. Blotting stock is the opposite — the fibre is left open and liquid travels in by capillary action until it saturates. That is why a thin strip takes up far more than thick, calendered paper.

02 · HANDLING

One millimetre holds little once wet

Dry, it takes no care at all. Soaked, that millimetre loses nearly all its strength and tears if you pull one end: lift it from the middle or with tweezers, and do not drag it over a sharp edge. Store it dry and closed — unsized cellulose picks up moisture from the air, and a strip that arrives half damp takes up less than it should.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Sold singly, not in packs: the quantity you order is the number of strips you receive. One note on finish: the cut is industrial and not always exact, so some strips come a few millimetres wider than others. It does not change how they absorb, but if you need them to size, allow for it.
