01 · THE TEMPERATURE

It stays inside the window rather than crossing it

Oxalic acid sublimates from around 157 °C and starts to break down above roughly 189 °C. The SUBLIMOX thermostat holds the plate between 180 and 185 °C — inside that band, and steady throughout the job. It is a different approach from vaporisers that preheat well above and sublimate during the drop: here the temperature neither climbs nor falls, it is held.

02 · WHICH VERSION TO CHOOSE

The Flip Top is the lid that opens without putting the unit down

Both versions sublimate the same: same thermostat, same power, same single dose. What changes is the loading. The Flip Top adds a trigger under the handle that opens and closes the lid without letting go of the unit or bringing your hand near it. The Standard does not have it. If you are chaining hives, that movement repeats once per dose and is what you are buying; if you work a few, unhurried, the Standard does the same job.

03 · WHERE THE POWER COMES FROM

It is 300 W: that means about 25 amps on the 12 V side

It runs on 220 V mains, on a generator, or on the car battery through a 12 to 220 V inverter. And that is the question that comes up most. Since it draws 300 W, the inverter has to deliver that continuously — with margin, not exactly — and on the 12 V side that comes to about 25 amps, plus the inverter's own losses. With a 60 Ah battery, and bearing in mind you should not take it below half, that works out at roughly an hour of element-on time; since the thermostat cuts out and comes back, the working day gives you considerably more than that hour.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

We do not give a number of hives per battery, because it depends on the thermostat cycle, the ambient temperature and how continuously you work. What is fixed is the draw: 300 W. With that figure, any inverter or generator sizes itself.
