Complete respiratory protection set with Goodyear half-mask, 2 ABEK 1 chemical filters and 4 P3 pre-filters. Real protection against oxalic acid and formic acid vapours during varroa treatments: vaporization, drip and diffuser application.
Complete respiratory protection during acid sublimation and drip treatments
Vaporizing oxalic acid-based treatments or applying formic acid without proper respiratory protection is a real risk that many beekeepers underestimate. The vapours from these acids are corrosive to mucous membranes and airways, and a simple paper mask does not provide sufficient filtration. This set, developed by Goodyear and Oxyline specifically for beekeeping use, includes everything you need to work safely during varroa treatments with organic acids: vaporization, drip application, and even formic acid application with diffusers.
The set comes with all the necessary components without having to buy separate parts: 1 universal-size thermoplastic half-mask, 2 ABEK 1 chemical filters, 4 P3 particle pre-filters and 2 connectors to attach filters and pre-filters to the mask. Open the box and you'll have it assembled in less than a minute.
The ABEK 1 filters retain organic and inorganic vapours, acid gases and amines, which is exactly what oxalic acid generates when vaporized and formic acid when it evaporates. The P3 pre-filters add a layer of protection against the finest airborne particles, such as oxalic acid powder before sublimation or the microparticles generated when handling the crystals. The set includes 4 pre-filters because they are the component with the highest wear rate and it is convenient to have replacements on hand.
FFP2 or FFP3 masks filter particles, but they do not retain chemical vapours. When you vaporize oxalic acid, what you inhale is not particles: it is acid vapour that passes through any mechanical filter. Only a half-mask with activated carbon chemical filters (ABEK type) offers real protection against these compounds. It is the same principle used in the chemical industry for handling acids.
Full-face masks with an integrated visor do exist, but many beekeepers prefer the two-piece system: a half-mask for breathing and separate panoramic goggles for eye protection. The reason is practical: it is lighter and more comfortable, especially when you treat hive by hive and need to put on and take off your protection several times in the same session. It also allows you to use the goggles alone for other apiary tasks without carrying the mask. To complete your protection, we recommend combining this set with the GF7474 panoramic goggles (not included).
