Goodyear and Oxyline respiratory protection set for acid treatments: a one-size thermoplastic half mask, two ABEK1 chemical filters, four P3 particle pre-filters and the two connectors that join them. It is what it takes to sublime oxalic acid, trickle it or set formic diffusers without breathing the vapour: a paper mask does not hold it.
Oxalic vapour is not dust: it goes through an FFP2 as if it were not there, and only an activated-carbon filter stops it. This set brings filter, pre-filter and mask.
01 · WHAT IT FILTERS
ABEK1 for vapour, P3 for dust
The ABEK1 filter holds organic and inorganic vapours, acid gases and amines: what comes off oxalic acid when it sublimes and formic acid when it evaporates. The P3 pre-filter sits in front and stops fine particles, the oxalic dust when loading the vaporiser or handling crystals, and shields the chemical filter so it lasts. Four pre-filters come because they wear first; the ABEK1 filter is changed when smell gets through the mask or by the maker’s hours of use.
02 · WHY A DUST MASK IS NOT ENOUGH
FFPs filter particles, not gases
An FFP2 or FFP3 stops particles; sublimed acid is vapour, and it passes. Only a half mask with ABEK-type activated-carbon filters, the same the chemical industry uses with acids, gives real protection. Mask on, sublime downwind and with the entrance closed for the time the medicine states; bulk oxalic acid is not a treatment: registered veterinary medicines only.
03 · TWO PIECES
Half mask and goggles separate
It is a two-piece system: the half mask covers nose and mouth and the panoramic goggles go separately (980, not included). It weighs less than a full-face mask and goes on and off hive by hive; anyone wanting an integrated visor has the OxyPro X8 full mask of the same range. Fit with the mask clean, no beard breaking the seal, and a tightness test covering the filters and breathing in: if the mask pulls onto the face, it seals.
04 · THE SPARES
Oxyline-range filters; check the fitting
The consumables are the ABEK1 filter and the P3 pre-filter: in the Oxyline range, the ABEK1 X703 (3177) and the P3 X7N13 pre-filter (3176), which fit the X6/X7 half masks and the X8. What decides whether a filter fits is not the letters but your mask’s fitting: an ABEK of another brand may not mount. We are confirming with the supplier the fitting type of this half mask; until then, order spares with the set reference to hand.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
The complete set is supplied: half mask, 2 ABEK1, 4 P3 and 2 connectors; panoramic goggles 980 and spares come separately.
