Details of Beehive cleaning shovel
Everything you scrape off a hive floor has to go somewhere. With a flat blade, it goes back to the floor.
Stainless steel scoop with both sides turned up and a wooden handle. It measures 205 × 80 mm and works in two places: the hive floor and the top of the settling tank.
01 · THE TWO WINGS
It scrapes and collects in the same movement
The blade is not flat: it has both sides turned up, so what you lift — wax, propolis, dead bees — comes out in the same movement instead of dropping back onto the floor.
The neck is cranked: the handle sits above the blade, so you can work flush with the floor without grazing your knuckles.
02 · IN THE SETTLING TANK
The foam comes off before bottling
After extraction the honey settles for a few days and the fine wax, the bubbles and the impurities rise to the surface. That layer comes off with one wide pass, and the turned-up sides stop it slipping back in.
Do it while the honey is still warm: it is what separates a clean jar from one with a white scum at the neck.
03 · THE STEEL
Why stainless and not something else
It alternates between propolis and honey, and both are hard on metal: stainless steel does not pit in the damp of a settling tank and washes off with hot water.
