PRO hive tool with articulated leverage in stainless steel — the professional version for beekeepers who open hives in cold areas or with very hard propolis. The leverage multiplies the lifting force and prevents bending the frame top bar when prying it off winter propolis cement. Compatible with Layens, Spanish Dadant, Dadant Blatt and Langstroth frames.

🔧 Articulated leverage — the mechanical edge

On the basic hive tool (FG07) the extraction force depends on the beekeeper's arm — it works in normal conditions but falls short when propolis has been undisturbed for months and the frames are literally welded to the super top bar. The articulated leverage on the FG09 introduces an additional leverage ratio: with the same hand effort, you get 2-3 times more force at the clamp. The result: frames that with the FG07 force you to hammer the tool come loose cleanly with a single move.

🌡️ When the difference really shows

Cold or mountain areas: in harsh winters bees seal every gap with propolis, and when opening the hive in spring frames can be glued as if pasted. Hives unopened for more than 6 months: long overwintering, pollination transport, temporary abandonment. High-propolis races: Iberian from the north and Caucasian produce more propolis than Carniolan or Italian — if you work with these races the leverage is virtually mandatory. Old non-Hoffman frames: straight, without clear spacers, where the top bar gets caught under the next one.

💡 When you do NOT need the PRO

If you work in warm Mediterranean climate, open hives regularly every 2-3 weeks in spring-summer and your frames are correctly spaced Hoffman, the universal hive tool FG07 at € 7 covers 100 % of cases. For extreme situations or intensive professional work over many hours (where arm fatigue matters), the FG09 with leverage pays off through mechanics and the more durable stainless steel. Heavier (500 g vs 200 g of FG07) — relevant if you carry it all day.
