Multipurpose 25 cm spatula in stainless steel — companion tool to the hive tool to scrape wax/propolis, open glued supers, cut queen cells and general workshop cleaning. Stainless steel: withstands detergent and caustic soda washing without rusting. Does NOT replace the hive tool — they work together, not chosen one over the other.
Multipurpose 25 cm spatula in stainless steel — the complementary tool to the hive tool that beekeepers end up using every day without realising. Combined functions: scraping wax and propolis, lifting frames with the side tip, unsticking crown boards, opening glued supers, and general workshop and honey-house tool. Stainless steel makes it suitable for cleaning with water and detergent without rusting, season after season of propolis exposure.
1. Scrape wax and propolis from super walls, bottoms, crown boards and empty frames (the beekeeper's most frequent task). 2. Lift frames using the curved side tip — useful for frames the main hive tool does not grip well. 3. Open glued supers: the flat tip slides between two propolis-sealed supers and separates them without damaging the wax. 4. Cut drone cells / open queen cells in queen-rearing operations. 5. General workshop cleaning: extraction trays, uncapping bench, centrifuge floor. A single tool with real function in 5 contexts.
The 25 cm length is the sweet spot: long enough to reach the bottom of a wax-laden Dadant super (40 cm useful depth with the beekeeper's arm), and short enough to fit in the overall pocket or apiary visit kit. Shorter (15-20 cm) does not reach the bottom of the super. Longer (35-40 cm) is awkward and adds nothing except in very large workshops. Stainless steel: withstands washing with water, detergent, caustic soda if the beekeeper disinfects equipment between seasons. Does not rust, does not transfer flavour to honey.
This spatula does NOT replace the hive tool (FG07, FG09 or FG13) — its tip does not grip frames with the necessary force. The classic combination is: main hive tool in one hand, multipurpose spatula in the other hand (or in the pocket). When the hive tool gets clogged with wax or propolis on the clamp, the spatula cleans the teeth in 2 seconds. When two glued supers need to be separated that the hive tool cannot open by geometry, the spatula enters from the side and separates them. They work together, not chosen one over the other.
