Complete hive or piece by piece

Two ways in. The complete NICOT Dadant Blatt hive with frames (€83) arrives ready. The same without frames (€63) suits you if you already have frames made up or want them in wood. If you plan to grow, buying by the piece works out better: body (€30), 8 or 9 frame super (€18), cover (€12). Same system, and what breaks is replaced on its own.

Why plastic, and when it is not worth it

NICOT plastic does not rot, needs no repainting every couple of years, and can be washed and properly disinfected — which counts when you move colonies or when you are carrying a health problem. In exchange it insulates differently from wood and weighs less: good for migratory work, worth strapping down on a windy site. Four hives that never move and wood does the same job.

The Cupularve, which is how most people find NICOT

The Cupularve (€16) is the graft-free queen-rearing system: the queen lays straight into the cups and you move the whole cup, without picking larvae with a needle. For anyone raising their own queens without a watchmaker's hands, that is the difference between trying and succeeding.

Compatibility, where people get caught

NICOT Dadant Blatt is Dadant Blatt: it takes standard Dadant frames, not Langstroth and not Layens. Before mixing equipment, check the frame dimension rather than the hive name.
