Ten-frame Dadant Blatt brood box in double-walled moulded HDPE: the NICOT® plastic body for frames with a 47 cm top bar.
It is the French and Italian standard. The Dadant US frame, with a 48 cm top bar, does not fit: measure your top bars before ordering.
01 · COMPATIBILITY
Measure the top bar: 47 fits, 48 does not
Dadant Blatt and Dadant US share a name and differ by one centimetre in the top bar. This box is made for the 47 cm one; a 48 cm frame either will not go in or jams. Beyond the frame, it fits the rest of the NICOT Dadant 10 system: floor, supers, roof and crown-board feeder all share the side sockets for the fixing clips and centring pins (sold separately).
02 · WITH OR WITHOUT SPACER RAIL?
Look at the side bars of your frames before choosing the version
There are two versions, and the difference is what keeps the frames apart. If the side bars of your frame widen at the top, it is a Hoffman frame and spaces itself with its shoulders: the version without spacer rail is for you. If the side bars are straight, nothing holds the comb spacing: you need the version with spacer rail, which sets it for you.

03 · BUILD
Double wall with an air gap, at half the weight of wood
The body is injection-moulded in recyclable, mass-pigmented HDPE, with no paint or solvent, and is used as delivered. The 25 mm wall is double, with an insulating air gap; the manufacturer reports a drier interior with no mouldy frames. It does not rot, shrugs off acids and alkalis, and gives woodpeckers nothing to peck. At 4.0 kg empty it weighs half an equivalent wooden box, and the side rails let you move it by hand, crane or forklift.
04 · CLEANING
Scrape it, pressure-wash it, disinfect it with bleach
The surface is smooth and non-porous, so propolis and old wax come off with a scraper or a brush. For the end-of-season hygiene cycle the manufacturer allows hot-water pressure washing at 60 °C and 60 bar, soaking in water and bleach, or water at 60 °C with caustic soda. A wooden box cannot take that without a blowtorch and wear.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
It is the body only: floor, roof, frames and fixings are sold separately. And one manufacturer's warning that saves a return: store empty bodies always flat, never on edge or in a skewed stack, or they warp.
