CNE2 THE CUP BLOCK | 1 cup PER BLOCK, NOT A BAR OF THEM |
Candy A SECOND LIFE WITH THE PLUG | 3 × 2 × 2.1 CENTIMETRES |
CNE2 cup block, the middle piece of the NICOT queen-rearing system: it clips onto the CNE1 support nailed to the frame and in turn holds the CNE3 cup where the larva is placed. Beige food-grade plastic, reusable season after season.
Worth clearing up before you work out the order: each block takes a single cup, it is not a bar of thirty.
01 · ONE CUP PER BLOCK
The block is dimensioned to hold one CNE3 cup, and that is that. Raising ten queens takes ten supports, ten blocks and ten cups, spaced along the bar of the raising frame. It is the commonest miscalculation when starting with NICOT: one of each piece is ordered on the assumption that the block is the bar holding the whole series. Tie the number to the cells you want to raise, and add a few spares.
02 · TWO JOBS
The maker gives it a second use that saves material: with the plug, the same block becomes a candy compartment for introducing queens. So the frame you used for raising also serves as the introduction system in the queenless colony, without buying separate cages. It is a small detail that changes the material count of a rearing season.
03 · CLEANING
Neutral beige in food-grade plastic, non-porous: it does not take up residual smells the bees would reject. Between batches you scrape it with the hive tool, wash it with hot water under pressure — up to 60 °C — and, if needed, disinfect with diluted bleach. It comes out ready for the next batch with no propolis or wax left, and it lasts season after season: beekeepers who start with NICOT are still using the same blocks years later.
