Prevents queens and drones from exiting while allowing workers through. Ideal for mating nucs and swarm control.
This rigid plastic entrance from Nicot is specifically designed to prevent queens and drones from entering or exiting the hive, thanks to its calibrated 4.2 mm holes. Unlike standard entrances, its purpose is not to regulate worker bee traffic, but to selectively block the movement of larger individuals in the colony during very specific management operations.
When should this entrance be used?
• To prevent swarming, by stopping the queen from leaving the hive.
• To block foreign queens from entering during merging or drifting situations.
• To restrict drone movement, such as during queen mating control or sanitary treatments.
• In mating nucs or small splits, when you need to ensure the queen remains inside the hive.
Reversible design, fully compatible with Nicot bottom boards
This entrance is reversible: it can be installed in closed mode (with just the 4.2 mm ventilation holes) or flipped around to leave the entrance fully open. It fits securely into the side rails of the Nicot plastic bottom board for Dadant 10-frame hives, requiring no screws or tools for installation.
Easy to install and clean:
• To install, simply snap it into the bottom board’s guide slots.
• To remove, lift one end and slide it sideways to release.
Made from high-quality technical plastic, this entrance is easy to clean with a scraper or pressure washer (up to 60 °C), and can be safely disinfected with bleach.
