13 m² PER COAT | 750 ml TIN |
High-viscosity clear sealer for coating the inside of hive-top feeders, frame feeders and floors, in timber as well as polystyrene.
The feeder has the hardest life of anything in the apiary: it spends weeks with litres of syrup sitting in it, and unsealed timber drinks it up.
01 · WHY SEAL IT
Bare timber draws syrup in by capillary action and keeps the sugar inside. From then on it is always the same cycle: residues fermenting between feeds, stains that will not scrub out, and joints that end up weeping. Expanded polystyrene does the same through the porosity of its beads. A coat of sealer closes that pore and turns the part into something washable: the syrup stays on the surface and whatever is not taken gets rinsed away.
02 · APPLICATION
This is a high-viscosity sealer, and that body is what stops it running off vertical walls or sinking into the grain without leaving a film. Brush it onto the inner face, working it into the corners and the joints, which is where syrup escapes. The 750 ml tin covers around 13 m² in one coat, so it will see you through a long batch of feeders.
It dries colourless: it seals without hiding the grain or changing the look of the timber. Let it flash off completely, with the part in the open air and away from the apiary, before you put syrup in it and return it to the hive.
03 · WHERE IT WORKS
It is meant for the parts that get wet: hive-top feeders, frame feeders that take the place of a comb, and hive floors, where winter condensation collects. It behaves the same on timber and on polystyrene, so it covers the mixed kit most of us actually run. It is not an exterior paint: for the visible outside of the hive, a finishing product does a better job.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
This is a solvent-based product, not a natural wax nor a waterborne sealer: it smells while it dries, it is worked in the open air and it does not wash off with water. In exchange, that is what gives it the hardness and the water resistance to survive a feeding season.
| ✓ FITS | Hive-top feeders, frame feeders and floors, in timber or polystyrene. |
| ✕ DOESN'T FIT | Exterior hive finishing and surfaces in contact with harvest honey. |
⚠ PRECAUTIONS
Contains C9-C11 hydrocarbons. Highly flammable liquid and vapour: keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks and open flames, and do not smoke while applying.
Avoid breathing the vapour and work with ventilation. Wear gloves and eye protection. It may cause an allergic skin reaction and may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
Keep out of reach of children and avoid release to the environment. Let it dry and air off completely before the part goes back on the hive.
