5 kg special hive paint with coverage for 35-40 hives — the practical format to repaint the whole apiary every 2-3 seasons or a batch of newly-built hives. Available in various colours to choose. Paint formulated for outdoor wood exposed to sun, rain, snow and extreme temperatures — hive wood moves with humidity and needs a paint that follows that movement without cracking.

🪵 Specific paint for hive wood

Not just any paint will do. Hive wood breathes: it absorbs moisture in winter and releases it in summer, expanding and contracting. Ordinary builders' paint cracks within 2-3 seasons. This paint is formulated to follow that movement and keep an elastic layer that protects the wood against rain, sun, ice and the bees' own activity (propolis scratching, lichen, fungi in humid areas). It withstands 3-5 seasons in continuous outdoor exposure without peeling.

🎨 Different colours — beyond aesthetics

Light colours (white, beige, light yellow) reflect solar radiation and keep the brood chamber cooler in summer — vital in Mediterranean climate and migratory routes to Andalusia or Extremadura. Dark colours (blue, dark green, brown) absorb more heat — useful in cold climates or overwintering in mountain areas. Varied colours (blue, yellow, red, green) also help foragers locate their own hive when there are many in a row, reducing drift between hives. Specify the colour when ordering.

⚙️ Coverage and application

Coverage: 5 kg paints approximately 35-40 Langstroth/Dadant hives with 1-2 coats depending on wood absorption. Apply with roller, brush or spray gun. Before painting: sand the surface, remove wax remains, propolis and peeling old paint. DO NOT paint with brood inside: always paint new hives or after transferring colonies, and paint components (supers, bottoms, roofs) separately, away from the apiary. Minimum drying time 24 h before returning to service.
