Each entrance is crafted to block the entry of insects larger than 8 mm, allowing bees to defend the hive from unwanted intruders, such as small yellow wasps, by creating a controlled defense environment at all times.
Details of Set of 2 Beehive Entrances for ANEL Hives
The entrance is the only place a colony defends itself from. The smaller it is, the less front there is to cover.
Set of two plastic entrance blocks for ANEL® hives, 52 × 44 × 14 mm. They clip into the front with a rear catch, no screws and no tools, and stay put through transport.
01 · TWO POSITIONS, EACH ON ITS OWN
Open, shut, or one of each
Turning the solid part downwards, the block closes the way completely; to open it you pull the tab slightly and push up. As they are two independent pieces, you can leave one open and one shut and end up with half an entrance.
That is where they earn their place: narrowing the entrance on a newly made colony, on a nucleus or in robbing season, when a wide entrance is more front than the guards can cover. And in winter a smaller entrance holds the cluster's heat better.
02 · SHUTTING TO MOVE
With one condition that is not negotiable
With both shut the hive is sealed at the front for loading. And here comes the warning that costs colonies every season: a closed hive has to be ventilated from above. With no air out, on a trailer in the sun, the cluster's temperature climbs within minutes. You close the entrance, you open the ventilation.
