Hive Alive in 100ml format is a liquid feed with natural components that strengthens the bee's immune system. It is also useful to prevent adding it to syrups and prevent fermentation.
If you’ve only got a few hives, you want this to be crystal clear: HiveAlive 100 ml isn’t “food” on its own. It’s a feed supplement that you mix into syrup (liquid sugar feed) to make that syrup more complete and more attractive to bees.
First: what do beekeepers mean by “syrup”? It’s simply sugar + water (or a ready-made commercial syrup). You feed it when there isn’t enough nectar coming in, or when you want to help colonies build strength. In spring, many beekeepers use a “light” syrup (1:1, one part water to one part sugar) for stimulation.
What does HiveAlive add? A blend based on selected Irish seaweed extracts (OceaShield), plus natural components like thyme and lemongrass. The idea is to support gut wellbeing and overall colony robustness when you feed, especially in autumn (getting ready for winter) and also in spring (clean build-up).
Golden rule (mixing rate): 2.5 ml per 1 litre of syrup. That’s the same as “2 teaspoons per gallon” (about 3.8–4 L). Mix thoroughly and use it with warm/room-temperature syrup: don’t add it if the syrup is above 50 °C (122 °F).
So why do people say “10 ml per hive”? Because the typical minimum is calculated like this: a hive should receive at least 4 litres of activated syrup in autumn (and you can repeat in spring). If you activate 4 L at 2.5 ml/L, you use 10 ml of HiveAlive for that hive for that feeding period.
Simple AUTUMN plan (small-scale): target per hive: 4 litres total of activated syrup (that’s 10 ml of HiveAlive in total). Split it in the way that suits your setup:
• Option A (very common): 4 feeds of 1 L (one per week). Each feed = 2.5 ml per hive.
• Option B (fewer visits): 2 feeds of 2 L (7–10 days apart). Each feed = 5 ml per hive.
The key isn’t the number of feeds, it’s the total: 4 L of activated syrup per hive.
Simple SPRING plan: if you’re feeding, same logic: another 4 L activated per hive. If you feed more syrup, you can activate it too using the same mixing rate.
How far does 100 ml go? At 2.5 ml/L, this bottle activates about 40 litres of syrup. That equals:
• 10 hives if you do the minimum 4 L per hive for one period (autumn or spring).
• 5 hives if you do the minimum in autumn + spring (4 L + 4 L per hive).
If a colony is weak or not taking syrup: spray mode (different use). Make 1:1 syrup, mix HiveAlive at about 1:100 (example: 3 ml in 300 ml of syrup), and lightly spray bees and combs once a week for 3 weeks. This is not “feeding litres” — it’s a supportive application.
Practical tips: feed in the evening, avoid spills (robbing risk), and don’t open-feed. If you’re putting on honey supers, stop feeding in time and keep feeding and honey harvest clearly separate.
Pack size: 100 ml. Ideal for 1–10 hives: clear dosing without buying a large container.
