Formic Acid is a colourless, odourless, transparent liquid with a characteristic odour, presented in 1L and 85% formats.
Safety precautions: Formic acid 85% is a corrosive substance and must be handled with extreme care. Always use chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and, if necessary, a respirator with acid vapor filter. Work in well-ventilated areas.
🔬 Preparing a 65% solution:
To prepare a 65% solution from 85% formic acid, mix:
• 765 ml of 85% formic acid
• 235 ml of distilled water
Important: Always add acid to water, never the other way around, to avoid hazardous exothermic reactions.
Technical use: Formic acid is a professional-grade technical product used as an acid descaler for intensive cleaning tasks. It is especially useful for removing limescale deposits in steam generators, such as those used with wax melters and similar equipment. It may also assist in removing persistent organic residues from tools and surfaces compatible with acids. Not suitable for use on living organisms.
⚠️ WARNING: In Europe, the use of formic acid for the homemade preparation of treatments against Varroa or other unauthorized veterinary applications is prohibited and may constitute a criminal offense under the Penal Code, in addition to a possible administrative violation under current veterinary and animal health regulations.
