01 · MESH, NOT CLOTH

What it gains and what it leaves out

The body is ventilated 100 % polyester mesh: air crosses the fabric and the heat does not sit underneath. With a thin T-shirt on below it wears better still, because the mesh chafes a little on bare skin and that extra layer holds the fabric off the body.

And what it does not cover, best said up front: from the waist down you are in your own clothes. For quiet inspections that is more than enough; with defensive colonies, in swarming season or at harvest, the full suit is still the answer.

02 · THE VEIL

Fencing type, and the business with the ears

A fencing veil is a rigid mesh mask with no hoops in front of your eyes: you see the whole frame at a glance. It comes off by undoing the zips, all the way to wash it or halfway to move between sites with the jacket on and the veil off.

The point worth knowing: sitting close to the face, the mesh can rest against your ears — and wherever the mesh touches skin, the bee gets there. A thin cap underneath fixes it in a second by holding the mesh off your head; and if you are between two sizes, the larger one leaves more room up top.

The veil is rigid but not indestructible: no washing machine, no folding, and never stored with weight on it. By hand, with a damp sponge.

03 · THE SIZE

Chosen by the chest, with fabric to spare

It is made from M to XXL. As a reference, the M covers 1.70 to 1.80 m at a slim-to-medium build and each size moves one step from there; but in a jacket what governs is the chest measurement, because it does not cover the legs.

And it is chosen with fabric to spare. This is workwear that goes over what you have on, and fabric stretched tight against the skin is exactly where the sting gets through. Between two sizes, the larger. If you want us to confirm it against your height and chest, write to us before ordering.
