Twenty-two life-size photographs of hive frames on thick laminated card, to mount on eleven Dadant frames and show the inside of a hive without opening one.
You do not take a classroom to an apiary. There is no protective gear for twenty-five people, no way of knowing who is allergic, and no reason for the colony to pay for a demonstration.
01 · WHAT YOU SEE
The real sequence of a brood box
These are not illustrations: they are photographs of covered frames, with and without brood, with their stores. The pieces a beekeeper recognises on opening are there — the frame with the queen, the one with queen cells and the outer frames with honey and pollen.
With eleven frames mounted you can show what is hard to explain in words: the brood nest in the middle, the ring of pollen around it and the honey above and at the sides.
02 · HOW IT MOUNTS
Eleven frames, twenty-two faces
Each photo is fixed with drawing pins or double-sided tape to one face of a frame, so the 22 cover both sides of eleven. The brood-box ones measure 43.3 × 29.8 cm and the super ones 43.3 × 15.8 cm, to Dadant Blatt or Dadant US frame size.
The lamination is what lets them survive one course after another: they wipe clean and take handling.
