Details of Toy of Life Cycle of a Honey Bee

Safariology® set with four figures showing the complete honey bee life cycle in order: egg, larva, pupa and adult.

The stages are enlarged so they can be observed and handled; they are not shown to a common scale. The adult figure measures approximately 7.6 cm.

01 · HANDS-ON LEARNING

Four pieces for building the sequence

Mix up the figures and ask learners to reconstruct the process. They can then connect each stage with what happens inside the cell: the egg hatches, the larva grows as worker bees feed it, the pupa completes metamorphosis and the adult bee emerges. It is a useful resource for classrooms, workshops, museums, associations and beekeeping outreach.

02 · BEEKEEPING CONTEXT

The 21 days refer to worker bee development

The sequence is common to all three castes, but the timing differs: a worker takes about 21 days from egg to emergence, compared with around 16 days for a queen and 24 for a drone. The set helps explain this difference without confusing development time with the subsequent lifespan of the adult bee.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Recommended for ages 4 and over

Safari Ltd. states that the figures are non-toxic and BPA-free. The packaging warns that they contain small parts and are not suitable for children under 3. To preserve the detail, clean them with a damp cloth and avoid intense heat or abrasive products.
