Explaining a hive with words falls short: here the child lifts the roof and pulls the frames one by one, and what is on each frame is the lesson.

01 · WHAT IT IS

A real Dadant that opens in the classroom

It is not a model: they are the polystyrene parts of Lyson’s 12-frame Dadant, ventilated roof (W1015_E), body (W1017_E, 446 × 520 × 310 mm) and floor with adjustable entrance (W1122_E), painted lilac and yellow, with the size and look of a working hive. Polystyrene keeps the set at 6.4 kg, which is what lets you carry it from school to fair and from fair to visitor centre without lugging a wooden one.

02 · THE BOARDS

Twelve frames, sixteen topics on both sides

Twelve Dadant-size wooden frames carry, instead of wax, a rigid 435 × 300 mm board printed in colour on both sides: the queen, the worker and the drone, bee anatomy, the dance, pollination, honey types, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, uses of wax and how to help bees. They come out and are shown as in an inspection: the one explaining goes frame by frame and the one listening sees the colony from inside without opening a real one.

03 · WHO FOR AND HOW

Workshops, schools, fairs and open days

For beekeeping associations, schools, visitor centres and honey museums that receive groups and cannot open a hive with bees in front of them: with this one the whole gesture is reproduced, lifting the roof, separating frames, showing both sides, with children of any age and no suits. It comes with the boards in Spanish. It is not a hive to stock: the painted polystyrene and the boards are classroom material.
