The whole book, not just the title

The Traité Rustica de l'apiculture is a French work and the text is entirely in French. There is no translation, so you need to read the language to get the value out of it.

That said, the 800-plus photographs, drawings and colour diagrams are a good part of what it offers, and those read the same in any language.

02 · WHO IS BEHIND IT

Henri Clément and the UNAF

It is directed by Henri Clément, a professional beekeeper in the Cévennes and spokesman for the French National Beekeeping Union, and written with professional beekeepers, agricultural engineers and researchers.

That is what sets it apart from a single-author manual: each section is signed by somebody who works in it.

03 · WHAT IT COVERS

From the first inspection to apitherapy

It starts with the basics — smoking, handling frames, working through an apiary — illustrated step by step, and reaches as far as pollination and apitherapy.

That span makes it useful both to someone starting out and to someone who already keeps bees: in practice it is a book you go back to, not one you read once.
