A clear plastic clip to pick up the queen without touching her with your fingers, and keep her in view.

The side slots let workers through and hold the queen in. It is the tool for marking, moving or examining her without pinching her between your fingers.

01 · HOW IT HOLDS

Workers pass, the queen does not

The width of the slots does the work: a worker goes in and out — and feeds the queen while she is inside — but the queen's abdomen will not pass. You can leave her there while you finish reading the frame. The clear plastic is the other half of the design: you see whether she is marked, whether her wings are intact and which way she is facing before applying the marker.

02 · PROPOLIS

Clean it the same day or it will stop closing

This is a budget plastic clip and it has one specific weak point: over a long day propolis builds up in the hinge and there comes a moment when it no longer opens and closes cleanly. That is when queens escape, not before. Scrape it and wash it in hot water at the end of the visit: fresh propolis comes off easily, dried does not.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY
