Round cage for protecting queen cells, isolating the queen or interrupting egg-laying. Ideal for queen rearing or varroa control.
When you're rearing queens, every queen cell matters — and protecting them properly can make the difference between a successful mating and a lost queen due to neglect or robbing. This round plastic cage (⌀90 mm) is one of those small tools that makes precision work in the hive much easier.
Made of flexible, durable plastic, it withstands heat, repeated use, and cleaning without deformation. Its grid design allows for excellent ventilation and contact with nurse bees while preventing damage to the queen or the queen cell. The small sliding cap allows you to use it as a temporary introduction cage, placed directly on the comb.
One particularly useful application is to confine the queen for 10–14 days to stop egg-laying. This interruption allows the colony to become broodless, significantly improving the effectiveness of varroa treatments that act only when no capped brood is present (like oxalic acid).
You can also use it to temporarily isolate the queen, protect selected queen cells, or even as a partial excluder to restrict the queen’s access to a specific comb area without disturbing the whole hive.
Recommended uses:
• Protecting queen cells during queen rearing
• Temporary caging of the queen on the comb
• Brood interruption for varroa control
• Limiting movement in splits or nucs
• Compatible with Langstroth, Dadant and Layens frames
A simple yet versatile tool, essential for any queen rearing or sanitary management strategy. During intense blooms like eucalyptus or rosemary, having these cages on hand can mean the difference between a smooth operation and a swarm-prone mess.
