JZBZ® plastic cage for introducing, shipping and banking queens, with a candy tube and no staples or corks.

The classic American model: it holds a queen and about three attendants, wedges between two frames and comes ready to use. It is scented with a pheromone from the factory, though acceptance is always the colony's call.

01 · THE RELEASE

The candy tube sets the pace, not you

The flip top carries a one-inch tube you fill with candy and close with its cap: the workers eat through it from outside and the queen walks out when they are done — which is roughly the time they need to get used to her scent. If you would rather release her yourself, the plastic tab pulls out by hand. There is no need to staple the cage to a frame or plug it with cork.

02 · WHERE IT GOES

Between two frames, with the queen able to take cover

It wedges between two frames of the nest — Hoffmann, Langstroth or Layens — and stays put. The slots run on every face, so there is scent and antennal contact without the workers being able to ball her; and if they get agitated, the queen retreats into the opaque tube. It works equally for shipping her, introducing her or holding her in a queen bank. What no cage does is guarantee acceptance: that depends on the colony, the season and how the queenless period was set up.
