Confining her to a single frame does not stop the laying: it concentrates it. And that is exactly the point.

01 · THE TRAP COMB

Concentrate the laying, concentrate the mites

With only one comb available the queen keeps laying, but only there, so the varroa going into brood concentrates on that frame. Once that brood is sealed, the comb is taken out and destroyed before the bees emerge.

The sequence can be repeated to catch successive waves. It is handling equipment within a health plan, not a veterinary treatment on its own.

02 · WHAT IT ASKS

A calendar and a findable queen

You have to note the day she goes in and the day the brood is sealed, because taking it out late releases exactly what you meant to catch. Finding the queen is the other half of the job, and with a marked queen it takes one inspection instead of three.
