Non-dripping sulphur strips 500g. It's one of the best ways to control wax moth. They serve as disinfectant, anti-dustmite, fungicide and wax protector against moths. They are also used to sterilize barrels or fermentation vessels.
Harvest may be over, but the work isn’t done yet.
You’ve extracted the honey, stacked the frames in storage, and for a moment it feels like everything’s under control. But that’s exactly when wax moths start their silent invasion. If those frames contained brood or pollen, the risk increases. And if you don’t have access to a freezer or cold room, sulphur strips remain one of the most reliable defences.
A time-tested solution that still works
These non-dripping sulphur strips (500 g pack) have been trusted by generations of beekeepers. The smoke they release — rich in sulphur dioxide — kills wax moth larvae and adults, preventing damage to stored wax. It also acts as a natural fungicide and disinfectant for barrels or fermentation containers.
How to use them:
• Use 60 to 100 g per m³ of storage volume.
• Place the strip in a fireproof metal or ceramic container.
• Light it and seal the space: a storage box, empty hive, drum, or airtight container.
• Never use in the presence of bees or in poorly ventilated areas.
Important: sulphur smoke does not affect eggs, so repeat the treatment to break the cycle.
When to apply:
• Any time you store empty frames (especially with pollen or brood residues) in warm conditions (above 15 °C) and with no bees present.
• Repeat after 10–14 days.
• If warm conditions persist, reapply every 2–3 weeks.
• Always air the frames for at least 24 h before putting them back in the hive.
What about honey or wax contamination?
These strips are for empty, extracted frames only. When used properly and ventilated, they leave no harmful residues in wax. However, never use them on honey-filled frames, as the smoke can affect honey quality and taste.
Safety precautions:
• Sulphur smoke is toxic: wear gloves and respiratory protection
• Do not inhale directly or use in living spaces
• Keep away from children and animals
If you lack cold storage, sulphur is still an affordable, proven, and effective solution. Just apply it responsibly and with proper planning.
