1 kg block of unrefined beeswax: melts between 62 and 65 °C, 27.5 × 8.5 × 5 cm. For candles, cosmetics, wood with linseed oil, grafting and leather. Being unrefined, colour and aroma vary with the batch and it may carry some residue: that is normal, not a fault.

Details of Pure Beeswax blocks 1kg

1 kg

BLOCK

62-65 °C

MELTING POINT

27.5 × 8.5 × 5 cm

DIMENSIONS

0.96 g/cm³

DENSITY

1 kg block of unrefined beeswax, to melt down for candles, wood, grafting or cosmetics.

Wax as it comes off the process, neither bleached nor deodorised: it keeps its colour and its smell. It melts between 62 and 65 °C, so a water bath handles it without fuss.

01 · HOW IT ARRIVES

Unrefined: colour and smell change from batch to batch

Better said before than after, because it is what surprises people most: the block usually arrives darker than the photo, and it may carry some residue — fine particles, a little honey — as any wax that has not been through fine filtering. That is not a fault in the batch, it is what unrefined means: in exchange it keeps its aroma. If your work needs pale, particle-free wax, filter it yourself while melting through a mesh or muslin; most uses do not need it.

02 · WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Outside the hive is where most of it goes

Buyers mostly use it in the workshop and at home. On wood, melted with linseed oil, it feeds and seals furniture, handles and boxes. In the garden, over graft unions and pruning cuts, it works as a barrier against moisture loss. In candles it gives a steady flame and that smell no paraffin imitates. Then the small uses people find on their own: waterproofing leather and boots, waxing sewing thread, caring for instrument timber.

03 · HOW TO MELT IT

Water bath, and do not overheat it

It melts between 62 and 65 °C: in a water bath, never over direct flame. Overheating does not improve it — above 90 °C it starts losing the volatiles that carry the aroma, and above 100 the damage is plain. If you are mixing it with oil for wood, a comfortable starting ratio is one part wax to two or three of oil, and you adjust the hardness from there.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is a solid 1 kg block of 27.5 × 8.5 × 5 cm: to portion it you have to cut or grate it, and a serrated knife works far better than a straight one.

✓ FITSCandles, cosmetics, wood, grafting, leather and waxed thread.
✕ DOESN'T FITWork that needs pale, factory-filtered wax.
⚠ NOT INCLUDEDAnything for milling: making foundation needs a mould or rollers, sold separately.

The wax is excellent for conditioning my sewing thread, but we will also be using it for the sliders of our kitchen and bathroom drawers and also for conditioning saw blades. A huge amount of product for a very reasonable price.

The wax is full of impurities (honey, particles, and water) and the color is very dark.
