Details of Electric stove for heating wax pots

500 W electric hot plate with a 14 cm plate, adjustable thermostat and power light: the heat source for the brass wax-melting pots that induction hobs cannot heat. One kilo, plugs in wherever needed and heats slowly, which is what wax asks for.

Wax does not want fire, it wants slow heat: a resistance plate on a low thermostat and a flat-bottomed pot, with the thermometer in the wax, not on the plate.

01 · WHAT FOR

The brass pots that induction will not heat

The house’s 12 cm pouring pot and 8 cm pan are brass: a good conductor but not magnetic, so an induction hob does nothing with them. This plate is a resistance: it heats any flat bottom that rests on its 14 cm. Melting kilos needs a wax melter; this is for fixing foundation, waxing frames and filling moulds.

02 · HOW TO USE IT

Low thermostat and thermometer in the wax

Start on the low setting and go up little by little: the thermostat regulates the plate, it does not measure the wax. Beeswax melts at around 63-65 °C and is worked between 70 and 85; above 100 it darkens and loses its scent, and once it smokes it is spoilt. Flat-bottomed pot no wider than the plate, a dry heat-resistant surface, and the plate unplugged before cleaning or moving it.

03 · SAFETY

Wax burns: never unattended, and never water

Wax is flammable and a pot forgotten on full ends in flames. Never alone, pot not full, water and paper away. If the wax catches, cut the power and smother it with a lid: never water, which spreads it burning.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The hot plate is supplied alone; the brass pots 912 and 913 and the thermometer come separately.

✕ DOESN’T FITAnyone wanting to melt blocks or whole frames: for that, a wax melter. Nor for pots wider than 14 cm.
⚠ NOT INCLUDEDPot, thermometer or wax.
